RBC Capital maintains an 'Outperform' rating on NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) with an Outperform rating. PT $19.

Analyst, Doug Freedman, comments on NVIDIA's joint acquisition of a set of patents previously held by IPWireless.

Freedman said, "NVDA is expected to license the rights to those patents that it did not acquire, as IPWireless retains perpetual, royalty-free access to the patents. The patents are comprised of IP in areas of LTE including Infrastructure products and mobile devices. NVDA is looking for the assets to augment efforts in LTE baseband initiatives, as the company could provide integrated baseband on Tegra SoCs in early 2013. In our view, the acquisition of the patents are reflective of ongoing investments into mobile as NVDA attempts to grow more dollar content (baseband add-on) and share (expanding customer base) in the wireless marketplace."

The set of approximately 500 patents is mostly revolved around LTE and 3G. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
