Goldman Sachs upgraded American International Group (NYSE: AIG) from Neutral to Buy with a price target of $40 (up from $31), saying now is the right time to build a position given early signs of progress at Chartis and unexpected rapid deployment.

"We believe 2012 will be full of catalysts for AIG that are made more pertinent given AIG's low valuation."
