JCB Has No Shame - Makes Record Equity ETF Purchases
The Japan Central Bank is taking an unusual approach to reaching its stated goals of supporting interest rates and reducing risk premiums - they are buying equity ETFs and REITs in record numbers.
On Monday, the Japanese central bank reported that it spent a record 39.7 billion yen buying equity ETFs and another 2.3 billion yen buying REITs.
The JCB has spent 1 trillion yen on EFTs and 79 billion yen on REITS since starting the unusual program in 2010 in response to the financial crisis. The Nikkei has fallen close to 9 percent since then.
In the US, iShares MSCI Japan Index (NYSE: EWJ) is the most actively traded equity ETF tracking Japanese markets.
