Shares of PetMed Express Inc. (NASDAQ: PETS) are getting crushed Monday afternoon, currently down nearly 19 percent to $11.23. While revenue was up and earnings beat, investors were spooked by a 15 percent rise in operating costs and comments from President and CEO Menderes Akdag which pointed to an aggressive price strategy combined with increased advertising.
The share price of PETS has been clawing back gains lost since the stock price cratered in October of last year. Prior to Monday's move lower, shares were up more than 32 percent since the beginning of this year.
