Shares of Smithfield Foods (NYSE: SFD) are outperforming the broader stock market Wednesday afternoon following the morning addition of the stock to Credit Suisse's "US Focus List." The firm's Robert Moskow maintains an Outperform rating and $29 price target on Smithfield shares.
The move follows reports of a cow infected with mad-cow disease in California on Tuesday. Smithfield shares charged more than 2 percent higher to close Tuesday's session, and are up about 1.7 percent this afternoon. With the stock last trading at $21.02, Moskow's price target implies potential upside of about 38 percent.
