Needham & Company reiterates a 'Buy' on Synaptics (NASDAQ: SYNA) price target of $41.00.

Analyst, Rajvindra S. Gill, said, "The proliferation of capacitive touch has been a major secular trend in semis and in the broader tech industry over the past three years. With market adoption proven, OEMs are now focusing on driving costs out of the overall touch bill of materials (BOM). In this report, we compare the various touch technologies (i.e., Out-Cell, On-Cell & In-Cell), examine the benefits of the emerging “In-Cell” solution, and discuss which touch controller supplier looks best positioned. Net, we believe In-Cell could be a game-changing technology because it has the potential to reduce the overall touch BOM by 50%+, create thinner and more responsive touch screens, and help penetrate into the lower-end handset market. We believe Synaptics has the early lead with In-Cell and has been working with the major LCD suppliers on this technology for over two years. Moreover, SYNA is sampling its Series 4, which integrates the touch controller and LCD driver IC on a single chip. This technology leadership should help SYNA gain share in the handset market."
