Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/10: (VXX) (UUP) Higher; (SPY) (UNG) Lower

Gainers
  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 6.00 percent to $20.12. The CBOE VIX is up about 10.9 percent on the session heading into the start of first-quarter reporting season. Many believe that numbers will be lower overall following a strong rebound in the preceding year. Alcoa (NYSE: AA) will be reporting after the bell closes Tuesday.

    In addition, the NFIB index fell from 94.3 in February to 92.5 in March. Wholesale inventories also rose 0.9 percent in February, compared with expectations for a 0.5 percent gain.

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up 0.14 percent to $22.16. The U.S. dollar on the rise as investors look to a safe haven amid the market turmoil.
Receders
  • SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) down 1.40 percent to $136.29. Stocks lower on economic data in the U.S. as well as Spanish yields jumping higher again. Yields on 10-year Spanish bonds rose from 5.74 percent last week to 5.91 percent on Tuesday.

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 3.14 percent to $15.43. Nat gas continues to slip on lagging demand expectations. Data from the Energy Department Monday showed stockpiles rose 42 billion cubic feet last week, meaning stores are about 60.5 percent above historical levels.
