Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/03: (UNG) (XRT) (EWY) Higher; (XLF) (GLD) Lower
Gainers
- United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 1.57 percent to $16.45. Nat gas front month contracts are coming off of 10-year lows Tuesday as there might be some value buying going on ahead of storage data, which is expected out Thursday. Estimates call for gains in the range of 30 billion cubic feet (bcf) to 49 bcf. Last years draw was 29 bcf at this time and the 5-year average is an injection of 8 bcf.
Natural gas May contracts are up $.033 to $2.185 per mmBtu.
- SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.60 percent to $62.15. Retailers given a little boost by AutoZone (NYSE: AZO), which was put on Goldman's Conviction Buy list earlier. Otherwise, Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is seeing a little weakness from a downgrade at Barclays.
- iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) up 1.17 percent to $61.33. South Korea reacting to U.S. economic data issued Monday. With a better ISM number coming in, the outlook for Asia has improved on the Street. The KOSPI finished modestly higher following a 25 point slide the previous three sessions.
- Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) down 0.75 percent to $15.80. Financials moving lower amid data today showing orders to factories increased 1.3 percent in February, but came in just below views calling for a 1.4 percent gain.
Otherwise, markets are taking a breather after trading at 4-year highs. The shortened holiday week might add a little volatility to the mix.
- SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 0.33 percent to $162.41. Gold also taking a breather head of FOMC meeting minutes, expected out at 2pm EDT Tuesday. With recent positive economic data, traders are betting that there will be a delay on more monetary easing efforts by the Fed, though specific language will be combed through.
Gold June contracts are $4.6 lower to $1,675.1 per ounce.
