Nomura Securities Retail Sales Preview: Weather and Color Drive March Madness
Analyst, Paul Lejuez, said, "Following a strong Feb, the continuation of unseasonably warm weather in Mar and the slightly earlier Easter (which may help the last Fri/Sat of the month) likely led to a continuation in strong trends at most mall retailers. We also picked up a positive tone from the retailers at our Nomura Retail conference last week (Ann, Inc. (NYSE: ANN), Chico's (NYSE: CHS), TJX Cos (NYSE: TJX)); of these companies, only TJX reports monthly, and we expect strong results. The good performance was not across the board, as those retailers that have been struggling indicated no positive change in trends in the month (Pacific Sunwear (Nasdaq: PSUN), WetSeal (Nasdaq: WTSLA), Anthro (Nasdaq: URBN)), when they reported earnings mid-Mar. Top picks remain American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) & Macy's (NYSE: M)."
