Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 03/21: (GALE) (USG) (LGF) (FSII) High; (VALV) (CRME) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Galena Biopharma (Nasdaq: GALE) high of $2.93. After a 25.8 percent move higher Tuesday, Galena is up another 50 percent on Wednesday's session. Shares moved higher initially on Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent covering the use of its product candidate, NeuVax. Today, there are a few financial blog posts grabbing investors attention.

  • USG Corp. (NYSE: USG) high of 19.44. USG reported preliminary sales for January and February of $516.9 million, operating profit of $5.7 million, and a net loss of $30.5 million. During the same period last year, sales were $446.9 million, the operating loss was $46.8 million, and the net loss was $82.3 million.

    Shares up 13 percent to the new mark.

  • Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) high of $16.19. Ahead of the much-anticipated movie "Hunger Games," Lionsgate continues to get investor attention. Additionally, the acclaimed series "Mad Men" will be returning, with the cast and creator ringing the NYSE opening bell Wednesday morning.

  • FSI International, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSII) high of $5.44. FSI popped 18.3 percent to its new mark today, following strong quarterly numbers. For its second-quarter, earnings were 9 cents per share and revenue of $38.5 million, versus estimates calling for EPS of 5 cents and revs of $32.1 million. The company also said it expects third-quarter fiscal 2012 revenues to exceed $50.0 million.
52-Week Low:
  • Shengkai Innovations (Nasdaq: VALV) low of $1.04. In a regulatory filing after the market closed, Shengkai disclosed the resignation of CFO David Ming He.

  • Cardiome Pharma Corp. (Nasdaq: CRME) low of $0.79. Cardiome continuing lower following a report Monday that Merck (NYSE: MRK) decided to discontinue further development of the oral formulation of vernakalant. Nothing in the way of analyst calls Wednesday following a downgrade from Leerink Swann on the stock yesterday.
