Canaccord Genuity Morning Coffee on Nutrisystem (Nasdaq: NTRI): Terry Bradshaw, to the rescue!
Shares of Nutrisystem fell Tuesday after the company posted a wider-than-expected loss in the fourth quarter, as it continues to lean on promotional pricing. The company lost $1.2 million, or $0.04 per share, compared with a profit of $7.1 million, or $0.25 per share, a year earlier and the average analyst estimate of a $0.02-per-share loss. Revenue fell 24% to $66.9 million, topping the consensus estimate of $64.4 million. Looking ahead, the company offered a tepid forecast for Q1, seeing a loss of $0.05-0.10 per share while analysts were expecting a profit of $0.10. CEO Joe Redling said, “While our first-quarter financial performance may not be the dramatic and immediate turnaround that many investors and analysts expected, we are in a very different place than we were a year ago.” The company is looking to rebound from a disappointing 2011 as it felt the impact of reduced consumer spending. It has brought singer Janet Jackson and Terry Bradshaw on as brand ambassadors in an attempt to generate new sales.
