Shares of NutriSystem (Nasdaq: NTRI) are trading down over 10%, but off session lows. Last night, the Company reported a Q4 loss of $0.04 per share, 2 cents worse than consensus estimates. However, revenues topped estimates by about $2.5 million ($66.9m vs $64.43m).
Overall, the Q4 report was disappointing, given the decline in numbers year-over-year. Q4'10 EPS was $0.25 and revenues were about $88 million.
Adding to investors dismay, NTRI guided below estimates, seeing a Q1 loss between $0.05-0.10 vs. current estimates of $0.10 profit. NutriSystem also cut FY12 EPS guidance to between $0.45-0.55 per share vs. the consensus of $0.92.
On March 1, 2012, Auriga reiterated a 'Buy' rating, but expected a weak overall quarter, and expected more focus on 2012. However, this morning, Auriga downgraded shares from Buy to Hold, slashing its price target from $17 to $11. The firm also dropped FY12 EPS to $0.51 from $1.11 and FY13 EPS to $0.71 from $1.23.
Also this morning, Avondale Partners downgraded NTRI from Outperform to Market Perform, cutting its price target down to $9.50 from $18.
Standpoint Research analyst, Ronnie Moas, however, saw something different is shares of NTRI, and initiated coverage on the stock with a 'Buy' rating about six hours before the company reported its dismal results. (Time to dollar-cost average)
Shares of NTRI did tap a new 52-wk low of $10.41 vs. previous range $10.46 - 16.11. However, the company reaffirmed its quarterly cash dividend (annualized at about 6%) and does expect to be profitable for full-year 2012, so today's dip may indeed may be a longer-term opportunity. Currently, NTRI's market cap is $288 mln vs. Weight Watchers (NYSE: WTW), which is $5.71 billion.
