UPDATE: Sothebys (BID) Misses Q4 EPS by 21c

Sothebys (NYSE: BID) reported Q4 EPS of $1.04, $0.21 worse than the analyst estimate of $1.25. Revenue for the quarter came in at $284.2 million versus the consensus estimate of $298.39 million. Revenues were down 11% from the $317.96 million reported last year.
Net income for the fourth quarter was $71.5 million, down from $96.2 million last year. The drop was largely attributable to a decline in auction and related revenues. Earnings per share of $1.04 was down 25% from the $1.38 reported last year.
For the the full year 2011, revenues increased 7% to $831.8 million and net income improved 7% to $171.4 million. It was the best financial results in its 268-year history, apart from its record year in 2007.
