Analyst Comments:
Deutsche Bank forecasts the company will report earnings of $0.16 per share and $ 6 million in operating profits as revenues total $135 million for the quarter.
Looking ahead, the firm anticipates ad spend will be more directed toward the mid-year, due to the 2012 Olympics ad cycle, resulting in a larger ad sequential decline in the first quarter than in the previous first quarter a year ago.
An analyst at Deutsche said, “we think mgmt could discuss a likely user activity hiccup in 2Q12, when Sina, as well as other leading social media operators, starts implementing real name registration among existing users. We do not believe that real name registration will lead to a further delay in Weibo monetization.”
Deutsche Bank reaffirmed its Buy rating and $94.80 price target on the company ahead of the release.
Barclays downgraded shares of SINA to an Equalweight rating from its previous rating of Overweight on February 23. The firm also cuts its price target on the company from $103 to $70.
On February 13, an analyst at Jefferies commented, “We are previewing 4Q11 results: revenue of $130 million, +24% YoY, in line with guidance, driven by healthy ads demand from online services & FMCG. We expect FY12 ads growth to decelerate to 23%, in line with slower portal ads growth. Moderating Weibo costs to drive margin recovery in FY12.”
Jefferies reiterated Buy rating on the company, but lowered its price target from $128 to $113 to account for the valuation of Weibo.
