Nomura Securities on Retail: February Sales Preview - Small Month, Helped by Weather
Analyst, Paul Lejuez, said, "Based on many of the retailers that have recently reported earnings, we believe the year has started off relatively well. However, February is one of the smallest revenue months of the year, and was helped by favorable weather, so not a great month to use as a barometer for spring. Not every retailer has been equally strong so far this year. Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF), seemed to indicate no change to flattish comp trends. We expect cautious comments from American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) and Aeropostale (NYSE: ARO) when they report 4Q EPS (they will not report February comps). Macy's (NYSE: M) and Limited (NYSE: LTD) remain our top picks. At M, we believe the company has found the right balance between sales and promotions, and expect some upside to F12 estimates. At LTD, we believe the core business is as strong as ever and the company’s F12 EPS guidance will prove conservative."
