Rite Aid (RAD) Shares Surge Over $1.55 on Heavy Volume, Now Up ~9%

Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) shares popped above the $1.55 price level Tuesday afternoon, jumping nearly 4 percent to just over $1.60.

Volume surged very sharply as the price moved higher. From 1:24 to 1:25 pm, about 2.3 million shares crossed from $1.545 to $1.58, setting momentum for Rite Aid. Competitors like CVS (NYSE: CVS) and Walgreen (NYSE: WAG) didn't see similar moves.

Shares are now up about 8.9 percent on the session.
