Shares of General Electric (NYSE: GE) closed up nearly 0.7 percent on Thursday ahead of the release of its fourth-quarter results before the opening bell on Friday.

The Wall Street quarterly consensus for General Electric is $0.38 per share in earnings on $40.03 billion in sales. During the fourth quarter of last year, the company reported earnings of $0.35 per share on $41.38 billion in total sales.

For the full year 2011, analysts on the Street are currently estimating $1.37 per share in earnings on $149.28 billion in total sales.

The fourth quarter conference call is scheduled for 8:30 am ET.

According to data from Bloomberg, shares of General Electric have 16 Buy ratings, six Hold ratings and one Sell rating. The average price target on shares of GE is $21 with a range from $20 to $22.

Analyst Comments:

Goldman Sachs estimates GE will report fourth-quarter results inline with expectations: sees earnings of $0.38 per share on $40.3 billion in sales. The firm notes key items analysts and investors will be focusing during the conference include; equipment order and pricing trends, including signs of weakness in Europe given recent warnings from Siemens and Philips, GE Capital’s Fed review and an update on potential timing to resume the GECS income dividend, and Energy Infrastructure profit growth.

Goldman Sachs reaffirmed a Buy rating and $21 price target on the company ahead of the quarter’s results.
