Goldman Sachs lifted its price target and made positive comments on American Express (NYSE: AXP) ahead of Q4 results on Thursday, January 19, 2012 after the market closes.
The firm's price target goes from $56 from $58 and they lifted 2012 EPS to $4.30.
The firm sees AXP posting Q4 EPS of $1.01, which is above the consensus of $0.96, driven by 14% year-over-year spending growth and further reserve release offset in part by elevated expenses. Clarity on further expense disciplined, an update on capital deployment and indications of continued high-end spend outperform could drive shares higher, Goldman notes.
