BankUnited (NYSE: BKU) might just be having a record year.

Just about one year after going public, BankUnited may be in discussions with Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) about a potential sale, among other options, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Still holding stakes in the company are Centerbridge Capital, WL Ross & Co., Blackstone (NYSE: BX), and Carlyle Group.

BankUnited is said to be the second-biggest lender by deposits, which totaled $6.9 billion as of June 30th.

After surging about 11 percent as the rumor hit wires, shares were halted on a circuit breaker. Gains have been pared since: shares last traded at $24.26, up 4.8 percent from Thursday's close.
