Notable ETF Movers of the Day 01/11: (TAN) (GLD) (VXX) Higher; (XLE) (USO) (FXE) Lower
Gainers
- Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) up 8.61 percent to $2.90. Solars are ripping higher on a bullish Deutsche note and report from China's National Energy Administration. For more color on both, click here.
- SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 0.72 percent to $159.78. Gold moving higher following news that China bought 102,779 kilos, which is an all-time high. Otherwise, investors might be doing some safe haven storage on choppy market action Wednesday. Gold hit an intraday higher of $1,648 per ounce, its highest mark since the middle of December.
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 1.66 percent to $31.15. The CBOE VIX is hanging in positive territory Wednesday, as markets are searching for direction on continued sovereign debt issues in Europe, as well as the weakening Germany economy, as reported in fourth-quarter numbers.
- Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) down 1.57 percent to $70.29. Energy being led lower by Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC), which is off about 2.2 percent as crude prices trend lower on increased supplies.
- United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 0.43 percent to $39.17. Crude lower as crude stockpiles rose 5 million barrels, to 334.6 million barrels, according to new data from the EIA today. The Street was looking for a drop by 1 million barrels for the weekend ended January 6th.
- CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSE: FXE) down 0.68 percent to $126.36. The euro is nearing a 16-month low, according to Reuters, on word the Fitch has warned the European Central Bank (ECB) that it needs to do more to avoid a eurozone collapse. The euro is down about 0.7 percent to $1.2685.
