Canaccord Genuity reiterates a 'Buy' on Aegerion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AEGR) price target of $24.00.
Canaccord analyst, Ritu Baral, said, "Reiterate rating and price target on lomitapide potential as best-in-class HoFH drug. Lomitapide is AEGR’s Phase 3 drug for HoFH, a rare genetic disease that causes extremely high LDLs. We think lomitapide is the best-in-class HoFH drug in terms of tolerability and efficacy vs. ISIS/SNY’s Phase 3 mipomersen. AEGR will submit lomitapide’s NDA/MAA in Q1/12, and we expect FDA approval in Q3/12.x"
"Last Friday’s 78--week lomitapide pivotal extension data showed steady safety and efficacy in HoFH (Fig. 1). Mean LDL baseline reduction at week 78 was slightly lower at 38% (vs. 44% at week 56). Mean liver fat, lomitapide’s main safety concern, was slightly higher at 8.2% (vs. 7.3% at Tx week 56), but still lower than peak (9.0% at Tx week 26). We think this variation is minor with little clinical meaningfulness."
