Canaccord Genuity on Technology -- Enterprise Software: Weekly Musing New Year's Edition
Analyst, Richard Davis, said, "Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) dampens year-end revelry. Software was on a tear until the preholiday whiff."
"Observations. Software demand still strong, especially for cloud. As Europe fades into indifference, China will take the stage as the thing investors worry about."
"What the Oracle miss means. We believe IT buyers reassessed some deals to decide whether to go with legacy vendors catching up in cloud or with real cloud vendors. Oracle will win some but not all of those deals back. This could mean “blue bird” deals for some leading cloud vendors like Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM)."
"Q1 outlook for software stocks. Relief rallies for small caps and confusion over whether investors should measure Q4 results on a constant currency or reported basis. Nuance (Nasdaq: NUAN) will likely get positive analyst comments out of CES."
"The hurdle for IPOs is high. Risk aversion and dismal performance from several high profile Internet IPOs makes investors skeptical. That’s code for “you need to be big and growing really fast” to get out."
