Albert Fried & Company is reiterating its Buy rating and $15 price target on shares of TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO), while noting year end TIVO tax sellers and rumor mongers have created a great buying opportunity for investors.

Shares of TIVO are trading up just under 1 percent on the day to $8.97 per share, but are down from $11 per share in earlier November and $10 per share in earlier December. An analyst at Albert Fried & Company highlights there isn't much downside from its current price as TIVO has $3.50 per share in net cash and $4 per share in NOL.

The company strong patent portfolio and strategic positioning also allows for potential bidders such as Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), and Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI).

The firm reports DirecTV (NYSE: DTV) has quietly launched TIVO PVR services in 10 U.S. media markets. Albert Fried & Company forecasts management was receiving a large number of requests for TIVO.

Albert Fried & Company believe the recent rumors about disk drive shortages are untrue following talks with management. The company noted that while pricing was up for the quarter, it would soon come down again.

An analyst at the firm also states if the resigning CEO of Charter (Nasdaq: CHTR), Mike Lovett, would move to fill the top spot at Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE: CVC), it could prove to be significant for TIVO. The analyst believes TIVO could establish a retail or middle-ware relationship with CVC if Mr. Lovett makes the transfer.
