Global Hunter Securities initiates coverage on Galectin Therapeutics (OTC: GALT) with a Buy. PT $3.00.

Global analyst said, "Galectin's investigational drugs target galectins, which are key mediators of biologic processes involved in cancer, fibrosis and inflammatory disease, and therefore, have potential for evaluation as novel treatment for diseases of the liver and as an adjuvant that enhances the response to existing cancer therapies. We believe targeting galectin represents an approach that is supported by a growing body of recent scientific research. Given that mid-stage clinical studies with the company’s galectin inhibitors previously demonstrated safety in humans, in the 1H12 timeframe the company intends to advance a candidate into human testing in a disease indication where Orphan Disease designation and accelerated pathways to approval are possible. At a current enterprise value of $60MM, GALT shares are trading at a 64% discount compared to its peer group of companies in mid- to late-stage evaluation of small molecule oncology drugs (mean enterprise value of $164MM), implying a value of $2.42 for the shares. We believe the company’s near-term revenue opportunity (i.e., Davanat in South America) is undervalued. Based on a sensitivity analysis of projected 2015 EPS of $0.11 and peak sales of $105MM, discounted by 35%, we derive a mid-range fair value estimate for GALT shares of $3."
