WebMD (WBMD) Trades Strong as 4 PE Firms Showing Interest

December 15, 2011 12:55 PM EST
WebMD Health Corp. (Nasdaq: WBMD) shares are higher Thursday on reports the company might be a takeover target by not one, not two, but four different firms.

Private equity firms that might be interested include the usuals like KKR (NYSE: KKR) and Providence Equity Partners, according to the NY Post.

Further, WebMD is said to have scheduled December 19th as the cut-off date, and is unwilling to move it, a possible signal that a deal has been reached.

Notably, activist investor Carl Icahn disclosed holding a 9.99 percent stake in WebMD last month, meaning the deal might bode well for him. Shares are up 17.3 percent since a close of $32.04 on November 28th.

Shares are up 8.6 percent Thursday.
