Barclays on U.S. IT Hardware: Day 1 Conference Highlights; Cloud and Big Data Dominate Discussions
Analyst, Ben A. Reitzes, said, "Yesterday we concluded Day 1 of the Barclays Capital Global Technology Conference. Key IT Hardware companies under coverage presented, Including IBM (NYSE: IBM)(EW-rated), NetApp (Nasdaq: NTAP) (OW-rated), Tech Data (Nasdaq: TECD) (EW-rated), EMC (NYSE: EMC) (OW-rated) and DELL (Nasdaq: DELL) (EW) as well as other key public and private companies including DataDirect Networks, Drobo, Emulex (NYSE: ELX), QLogic (Nasdaq: QLGC), Silicon Graphics (NYSE: SGI), Quantum (NYSE: QTM), Stratasys (Nasdaq: SSYS), and OCZ Technology (NYSE: OCZ). We believe the overall tone around demand at the conference was cautious, especially with regard to Federal spending and Europe. We believe software and storage demand are stronger than hardware."
"We continue to believe key areas of investment into 2012 will be in areas such as Big Data, Cloud Computing, Storage and to some extent servers with potential support from a Romley upgrade cycle. However, the share gainers in Big Data seemed to sound a more confident tone at the conference, especially EMC. We also believe that IBM continues to execute well in software."
