Barclays on U.S. Retail Softlines: Strong Gains for Black Friday Weekend Sales
Analyst, Stacy Pak, said, "Our Northern California mall checks indicated a strong but more promotional start to the holiday season over Black Friday weekend.
The key market share gainers we would call out are as follows:
1) Abercrombie (NYSE: ANF): Particularly Hollister, which was very crowded with strong conversion
2) Gap (NYSE: GPS): Where it looked as though both Gap and Old Navy got traffic despite being no more promotional than last year
3) Limited (NYSE: LTD): The BOGO 50% on Bra's at Victoria's Secret looked like a real winner and crowds focused on the PINK assortment. At Bath and Body Works the buy 3 get 3 free signature collection promotion, anti-bac at 4 for $15 and 6 for $20, and the tote bag for $20 looked very successful
4) Urban Outfitter (Nasdaq: URBN): Where it looked as though Anthropologie's more promotional stance helped attract the female customer
5) Children's Place (Nasdaq: PLCE): Good traffic and long lines as customers took advantage of the 30% off entire store
6) Lululemon Athletica (Nasdaq: LULU): Some of the best traffic and conversion figures in a non-flagship store despite no Black Friday promotion
