Nomura Securities maintains a 'Buy' on British Sky Broadcasting Group (OTC: BSYBY) price target of 1000p
Nomura analyst, Matthew Walker, said, "Two new remedies consulted on: third party over the top (OTT) access to Sky Anytime customers and publication by Sky of the expiry dates of its movie contracts...As of the last quarter, there were 3.9m HD customers (38% of the base) who should be able to access the VOD service Sky Anytime. The proposal is that VOD names should be able to retail directly online to these customers, which looks like an extension of the original ‘must retail’ proposal. There are technical issues and these Anytime customers may be happy with the Sky service that they receive for no extra charge when they have an HD box. It will depend on how compelling the rival content offers are vs Sky."
"Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) and LoveFilm (Nasdaq: AMZN) seem to be providing Sky’s point: Netflix is due to launch in UK in 2012 and has done deals for various windows with MGM, Miramax and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF). LoveFilm (Amazon) has signed a major contract with Warner and opened up a second pay TV window; both companies outbid Sky, which suggests some doubt about the CC’s concern on new names not being able to enter the market."
"Our view – little financial impact. This could lower costs toSky owing to lower exclusivity. Longer-term rules around first run and SVOD content could provide an opportunity for services such as Love Film and Netflix."
