Collins Stewart initiates coverage on ZIOPHARM Oncology (NASDAQ: ZIOP) with a Buy. PT $9.00.
Collins analyst says, "We are initiating coverage on ZIOP with a Buy and $9 PT given our view that the palifosfamide P3 PICASSO-3 study has a high likelihood of success in font-line metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (mSTS), an orphan cancer. Given positive P2 data (trial stopped early on a 3.4 month PFS benefit), an identically-designed P3 study (except N=424 vs. N=67 in P2) and encouraging physician feedback, we believe the P3 study should meet its PFS endpoint in 2H12, supporting U.S./E.U. accelerated approval in 2014, with OS (co-primary endpoint) in ~2015 supporting full approval."
"Physicians believe palifosfamide could become the standard-of-care (SOC) in mSTS as they expect the drug to show superior safety and at least similar efficacy to the current SOC, ifosfamide, which is not approved for STS and is associated with significant toxicities."
