ACCO Brands Corporation (NYSE: ABD) 14.5% HIGHER; ACCO and MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV), have signed a definitive agreement to merge MeadWestvaco Corporation’s Consumer & Office Products business into ACCO Brands in a transaction valued at approximately $860 million. Upon completion of the transaction, MeadWestvaco shareholders will own 50.5% of the combined company.
Childrens Place (NASDAQ: PLCE) 14.5% HIGHER; reported Q3 EPS of $1.33, $0.06 better than the analyst estimate of $1.27. Revenue for the quarter came in at $484.1 million versus the consensus estimate of $469.09 million. Comparable retail sales increased 0.9% in the quarter. Childrens Place sees FY2011 EPS of $3.24-$3.29, versus prior guidance of $3.13-$3.25 and the consensus of $3.22. Also sees Q4 2011 EPS of $1.19-$1.24, versus the consensus of $1.22. The stock was upgraded to Buy at Janney.
