Barclays maintains an 'Overweight' on Sequenom (NASDAQ: SQNM) price target of $9.00.
Barclays analyst says, "Management laid out three possible scenarios for 2012 test uptake - a 'low' case of 25K units on an annualized basis, 'medium' of 40K units and a 'high' of 60K units. Key gating factors for test adoption, in our view, are physician education (clarity around clinical-use protocols, industry guidelines) and patient convenience (physician office based blood collection by 2H12). TAT is 8-10 days and SQNM's suggested protocol encourages physicians to consider MaterniT21 in the first trimester for the majority of high-risk women (details on page 3). SQNM is currently reporting T13/18 results, and over time, expects to add other chromosomal abnormalities. PMA submission is expected sometime in 2013, and approval will accelerate adoption."
"Reimbursement, while a crucial factor for profitability, should not be a significant
hurdle for demand: We believe the MaterniT21 test is attractive for patients at a
maximum out of pocket cost of $235..."
