Notable ETF Movers of the Day 11/03: (USO) (GLD) (SPY) Higher; (XRT) (TAN) (VXX) Lower

Gainers

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) up 1.49 percent to $36.20. Crude is higher today following the 25 basis point rate cut by the European Central Bank, as well as potential cancellation of the Greek referendum. Crude December contracts are $1.24 higher to $93.75 per barrel on the Comex.

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 1.19 percent to $171.07. Gold is catching a few bids as traders look to position themselves ahead of news out of Greece on the referendum. December contracts are $28.9 to $1,758.5 per ounce on the Comex.

  • SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) up 0.75 percent to $124.92. Markets higher Thursday following U.S. economic data showing initial claims fell 9 thousand to 397 thousand, while continuing claims fell about 15 thousand. Further, orders from nationwide facilities showed a surprise 0.3 percent gain, compared to a loss of 0.2 percent expected by the Street.


Receders

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) down 1.00 percent to $52.54. Retail sales came in below expectations, sending several in the sector lower. Missing the move lower today appears to be JCPemmey (NYSE: JCP), which reported October comps declined 2.6 percent as sales fell 6.6 percent. JCPenney is up 1.4 percent Thursday.

  • Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) down 0.88 percent to $3.38. The ETF being led lower by MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE: WFR), which is 9 percent lower following earnings.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 1.42 percent to $43.87. The CBOE VIX is about 1.7 lower Thursday following U.S. economic data as well as potential for cancellation of the Greek referendum.
