Shares of Sohu.com Inc. (Nasdaq: SOHU) are trading strong Friday afternoon heading into its third-quarter earnings report before the market opens Monday morning.
The Street is looking for Sohu to report revenue of $228.09 million and earnings of $1.16 per share. Earnings would be a drop from $1.21 reported last quarter, and flat from earnings of $1.16 reported in the same period last year.
Shares moved 33 percent lower in the quarter and are 42 percent higher since . The stock is up 7.8 percent on the year. Sohu has traded in a range of $46.35 to $109.37 over the last 52-week time frame.
Data from Bloomberg has 13 analysts with a Buy, nine at Hold, and one with a Sell rating on Sohu. The analyst price target average is $92.50, with a low of $73 and high of $125.
Analyst Commentary:
Heading into the quarter, Deutsche is looking for earnings of $1.15 and revenue of $228 million, just about in-line with views. On Sohu's video business, Deutsche notes that its exclusive TV drama "Designation Forever" was the most-watched program, clocking in well over 800 million views since its launch in mid August. Deutsche also commented, "the other top four TV dramas on Sohu have all been watched more than 500m times according to the official website. In comparison, the most popular TV series on Youku and Tudou have been watched 484m and 369m respectively, counted from their websites."
For gaming, "On September 19, Duke of Mount Deer launched open testing for its new EP "Bu Bu Jing Xin" (meaning watch every step), which had the same name as one of the currently most popular TV series in China. This new EP incorporates the characters and storyline from the TV drama into the game. The production team from TV drama also participated in designing the EP's storyline. Besides the appealing story, this EP offers users more than a hundred popular casual games (i.e. Plants vs. Zombie, Fruit Ninja, etc) to attract [more] players."
