Barclays on U.S. Retail Softlines: Pak's Short Interest Monitor

Analyst, Stacy Pak, said, "Short interest for the U.S. Specialty Softlines Industry was down 3.0% for the last two weeks of September versus the NYSE where short interest decreased 4.6% and the NASDAQ where short interest decreased 2.1% for the same period."

"The end of September short interest is 14% above the 223 million shares short
average for the last 12 months and is 41% above the 12-month low of 180 million
shares short. U.S. Specialty Softlines Short Interest was down 3.0% as of
September 30, at 254 million shares short, versus September 15."

"KEY CALLOUTS: Charming Shoppes (Nasdaq: CHRS) short interest was up 29%, rue21 (NYSE: RUE) was up 13%, and Cato (Nasdaq: CATO) was up 10% from mid September and TLB short interest was down 36%, and Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN) was down 12%."

"TEEN/CHILDREN: Total short interest in teen/children was up 1% from September 15, to 74 million shares and it was 23% above the 12-month average of 60 million shares. Days to cover averaged 7.9 versus 6.1 as of September 15, and the 12-month average of 4.2 days. Short interest to float averaged 18% versus the
12-month average of 11% and the highest ratios remained Children's Place (Nasdaq: PLCE) (30%), RUE (25%), The Buckle (NYSE: BKE) (24%) and Zumiez (Nasdaq: ZUMZ) (24%)."
