Following a 9 percent decline in shares Wednesday, Stifel Nicolaus' David Schick just issued a research note defending Vitamin Shoppe (NYSE: VSI).

The stock is getting clobbered amid recent studies which show the use of vitamins may actually be detrimental to health. Shares of GNC Holdings (NYSE: GNC), Schiff Nutrition (NYSE: WNI) and Reliv (Nasdaq: RELV) are also pushing lower this afternoon.

Schick argues the linkage news will not impact long-term demand for vitamins and supplements, but does warn of a near-term impact on buying and traffic.

The analyst maintains a Buy rating and $52 price target on shares of Vitamin Shoppe.
