Barclays maintains an 'Overweight' on Gartner (NYSE: IT) price target of $42.00.
Barclays analyst says, "We will be attending Gartner's flagship North America Symposium/ITxpo in Orlando, FL next week (October 16-20). Attendance levels and the "buzz" at this conference could give us a read into the health of Gartner's business (ahead of its 11/01 earnings call)...Gartner is a pure play on technology research, and the stock tends to be influenced by the general sentiment in the technology world."
"As a reminder, in 2008-10 Gartner's Research Contract Value (CV) began to decline in 1Q09 but was quick to return to sequential growth in 3Q09 (y/y in 1Q10). With a larger sales force, Gartner today is better positioned to take market share. Conceptually, in good times and bad, firms continue to invest in IT to improve efficiency, making Gartner's services relatively more 'sticky' than one would imagine."
