September 21, 2011 10:54 AM EDT
Shares of Ford (NYSE: F) are swinging wildly amid comments from VP and controller Bob Shanks at a Citi conference currently going on in Boston.

While the stock moved modestly higher amid comments the automaker will soon begin paying a dividend, the stock is now falling as Shanks is addressing cost issues. Shanks has said Ford is seeing "sharp increases" in rare earth materials and expects commodity costs to be "an area of volatility."

The stock has dropped about 1 percent over just the last few minutes. Shares last traded at $10.23.
