Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 09/16: (AMZN) (DMND) (AKRX) High; (BWEN) (ZNGX) (STP) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) high of $235.44. It appears Netflix's pain might be Amazon.com's pleasure. Amazon is currently building on its streaming offerings, aiming to compete more wholly with Netflix, which recently cut its third-quarter domestic subscriber estimates. Amazon offers a Prime membership for about $79 per year, or about $6.58 per month, making it an appealing alternative to Netflix. Amazon moved 3.8 percent to the new mark today.

  • Diamond Foods, Inc. (Nasdaq: DMND) high of $90.32. Diamond is higher following fourth-quarter earnings. Diamond reported earnings of 52 cents on revenue of $232.8 million, versus consensus estimates calling for earnings of 44 cents per share and revenue of $216.34 million. Looking at fiscal 2012, Diamond sees EPS of $3.05 to $3.15, versus prior guidance of $3.00 to $3.10 and the consensus of $3.10. Diamond also sees FY12 revenue of $1.85 to $1.95 billion, versus the consensus of $1.87 billion. Shares moved over 15 percent on the session.

  • Akorn, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKRX) high of $9.09. Akorn is higher Friday, as Deutsche Bank started the firm at a Buy, with an $11 price target. Deutsche thinks Akorn is an emerging niche generic drug company.

  • Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) high of $30.49. Bristol-Myers Squibb is continuing to move higher after reporting encouraging data from an investigational Phase 3b clinical study in which the addition of ONGLYZA (saxagliptin) 5 mg to ongoing insulin therapy (with or without metformin) maintained reductions of blood sugar levels (glycosylated hemoglobin levels, or HbA1c) in adult patients with type 2 diabetes compared to the addition of placebo (with or without metformin) from 24 to 52 weeks. The study was done in conjunction with AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN).
52-Week Low:
  • Broadwind Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: BWEN) low of $0.40. Continuing lower today as it priced a 32.5 million common offering at $.40 per share.

  • Zogenix, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZGNX) low of $1.95. Zogenix priced a 30 million common stock offering at $2 per share.

  • Suntech Power (NYSE: STP) low of $3.50. Suntech one of many solars started by Deutsche Bank today. Deutsche began Suntech at Hold, with a $5 price target. The firm also said Suntech has a first mover disadvantage. Other solars hitting 52-week lows include JA Solar (Nasdaq: JASO) at $2.28, Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE) at $3.82, and JinkoSolar (NYSE: JKS) at $8.80.
