Staples (SPLS) Ramps 9% on Surprise Q2 'Beat and Raise"

Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) is surging over 9 percent in pre-open trading Wednesday following better-than-expected Q2 results and guidance.

Staples reported Q2 EPS of $0.22, $0.02 better than the analyst estimate of $0.20. Revenue for the quarter came in at $5.82 billion versus the consensus estimate of $5.65 billion. Staples, Inc. sees Q3 2011 EPS of $0.46-$0.48, versus the consensus of $0.46. Staples, Inc. sees FY2011 EPS of $1.39-$1.45, versus the consensus of $1.37.

The report could also lift rivals OfficeMax Incorporated (NYSE: OMX) and Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP).
