Goldman Sachs upgraded Humana (NYSE: HUM) from Neutral to Buy with a price target of $91.00.

The firm believes fiscal austerity will drive accelerating managed care penetration of Medicare.

Goldman's analyst comments, "The context to our call is that we think fiscal pressures will drive a bigger role for Medicare Advantage (MA) and ultimately a phasing-out of unmanaged ‘traditional’ Medicare. At present, about 25% of the 47 million Medicare eligible population are in MA while the remainder are in traditional Medicare. Even without policy changes, MA is becoming the product choice for seniors as employer retiree coverage becomes increasing rare."
