Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG) is fighting off broader market movement today, staying in positive territory following its fourth-quarter report Friday morning, though its near-term outlook might be giving investors pause.
Revenue in the quarter rose ten percent, from $18.926 billion to $20.860 billion.
Net income moved 15 percent better to $2.510 billion or 84 cents per diluted share.
Numbers were better than revenue of $20.6 billion and earnings of 82 cents per share expected by the Street.
Of its segments, Health Care reported the largest revenue increase, 12 percent to $2.949 billion. Procter & Gamble's largest segment, Beauty, saw a seven percent gain to $5.068 billion, though it's net earnings fell 17 percent.
"We delivered organic sales growth of five percent and earnings per share growth of 18 percent in a challenging environment," commented CEO Bob McDonald. "[Results were] driven by our ongoing commitment to make a difference in the everyday lives of the world’s consumers."
Looking ahead, Procter & Gamble sees fiscal 2012 revenue growth of five to nine percent, which represents revs of about $86.687 to $89.999 billion based on fiscal 2011 revs of $82.559 billion. The Street is looking for revs of $87.08 billion. Earnings in the year from continuing operations are expected to be $4.17 to $4.33 per share, sandwiching the consensus earnings of $4.26 per share.
For its next quarter, Procter & Gamble sees sales growth of six to nine percent, translating to $22.112 billion to $22.737 billion, ahead of the $21.56 billion consensus. Procter & Gamble's earnings outlook was a little light, expecting a range of $1.00 to $1.04, which was below the $1.14 Street consensus.
Shares are up 0.25 percent on the session.
