Needham & Company maintains a 'Buy' on Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM), PT $32.
Needham analyst says, "MXIM announced the acquisition of SensorDynamics, a company specializing in MEMS solutions, for approximately $164M. Given that SensorDynamics is pre-revenue this represents a significant call option on the MEMS sensor market, sized at $7.7B in 2011, that may successfully lever MXIM’s channel and analog expertise or prove to be folly in hindsight. The transaction is expected to produce nominal dilution to FY2012 EPS and we have not adjusted our numbers awaiting JunQ4 earnings. We are favorably predisposed to MEMS integration in the analog realm and are supportive of the underlying thesis to the acquisition in the long-term but realize the near-term scrutiny of cash usage on this transaction may prompt a turnover in its shareholder base."
