Notable ETF Movers of the Day 06/03: (XLE) (FXE) Higher; (FXI) (SPY) (USO) Lower

Gainers

  • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) up 0.07 percent to $75.29. Modestly higher, as almost every other ETF is in the red today, led by Schlumberger N.V. (NYSE: SLB), which is up 1.7 percent, and Halliburton (NYSE: HAL), about 1.1 percent better. Also, an explosion at a Chevron (NYSE: CVX) refinery in Wales yesterday killed four. Chevron signed to sell the Pembroke plant to Valero (NYSE: VLO) in March for $1.73 billion. Production isn't expected to be disrupted at the plant.

  • CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSE: FXE) up 0.52 percent to $145.09. The euro seeing upside today following news out of Greece, as well as sour U.S. economic data. EUR/USD is up 0.5 percent to €1.4567.


Receders

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) down 1.75 percent to $43.81. China stocks see selling as U.S. jobs numbers came in light. Though nonfarm payrolls were expected to add 169 thousand, the actual number was a much lighter 54 thousand. Unemployment jumped 0.1 point to 9.1 percent.

  • SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) down 0.64 percent to $130.89. Broader markets lower today following jobs numbers. Dow is down 0.8 percent, Nasdaq off 0.7 percent, and S&P is 0.6 percent lower.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 1.13 percent to $39.23. Though the U.S. dollar is trading lower, making oil contracts cheaper, the prospect of a slowing U.S. economy is taking control. WTI July contracts are down $0.99 to $99.41 per barrel on the Comex.
