Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/11: (UNG) (XLV) (XRT) Higher; (VXX) (USO) (INP) Lower

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 1.98 percent to $10.79. Traders and investors buying in today following a six-day slide on warmer weather outlook. Some believe that the only bullish factor in the natural gas market are the prices themselves. May 2011 contracts are up $0.07 to $4.111 per mmBtu on the Comex today.

  • Health Care Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLV) up 0.66 percent to $33.54. The ETF being led higher by Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) today, which is trading 1.4 percent strong following an upgrade at Wells Fargo to Outperform. Traders also appear to be bullish on Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) today, amid reports that it will be discountinuing development of dimebon in Huntington disease. Pfizer shares are up 0.8 percent on the day.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.29 percent to $52.12. Led by JCPenney (NYSE: JCP) today, which is up 3.4 percent at mid-day. JCP may be making a technical move today, getting above the $38.25 resistance level that it bumped against a couple times over the last month. The stock hit a 52-week high of $38.75 today. Otherwise, retail sales came in rather solid last week, and investors may be taking some profit.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 1.41 percent to $28.51. M&A action today is keeping markets afloat as the U.S. government averted shutdown last week, and talks that Gaddafi may be ready for a ceasefire are surfacing. The CBOE VIX near-term index is down 8.2 percent so far today.

  • United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 1.44 percent to $44.50. Falling today as the risk premium built in from tensions in North Africa and the Middle East is lifting on potential ceasefire talks. Gasoline prices across the U.S. are $0.907 higher per gallon on average, to $3.77, when compared with the same period in 2010. WTI crude is off $1.36 to $111.43 per barrel on the Comex, according to May 11 contracts.

  • iPath MSCI India Index ETN (NYSE: INP) down 1.79 percent to $71.83. Stocks in India fell for a fifth day as output in India was reported at 3.6 percent in March, compared with the 5.1 percent that Bloomberg analysts who were surveyed called for. The Bombay Sensex fell 1.1 percent to 19,242.59.
