Barclays on Life Science Tools: Q1 2011 Preview
Barclays analyst says, "Waters (NYSE: WAT) and Agilent (NYSE: A) are top picks: We highlight WAT as a high conviction long with a 12-18 month horizon. The company has concentrated exposure to the biopharma manufacturing QA/QC space due to its leadership in chromatography. Given the prolonged capital spending slowdown in this segment, and increasingly positive commentary from all major players (Agilent, Waters, Shimadzu) on the beginnings of a robust multi-year replacement cycle, we feel confident that WAT will continue to surprise to the upside. The Acquity H-class, a new product specifically tailored for this end-market, should be a key driver of above-peer organic revenue and EPS growth."
"Agilent continues to deliver impressive strategic and operational execution. Robust top-line growth, combined with the company's reset margin framework (improved operating profitability, with reduced volatility), gives us confidence that this story is far from done. We expect aggressive investments in Life Science and Chemical Analysis, combined with a sector-leading emerging market footprint, will continue to drive outperformance."
"We would use pullbacks from short-term disruptions (Japanese earthquake, China rate hikes) to build positions and benefit from robust medium-/long-term fundamentals for both names."
Barclays maintains an Overweight rating on Agilent and raises PT from $50 to $54.
Barclays maintains an Overweight rating on Waters and raises PT from $90 to $95.
