  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 0.50% to $139.93. Investors moving into precious metals today as inflation fears abound. Chile's central bank increased its inflation outlook today, and China has been tightening monetary policy over the last few months in order to continue to curb inflation in the rapidly expanding economy. • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) up 0.25% to $80.19. Receders
  • iShares MSCI Japan Index (NYSE: EWJ) down 0.92% to $10.20. Reports today have Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) dumping radioactive water, about 100x above normal, into the Pacific in order to make room for potential more runoff in the coming days. TEPCO is also unable to contain a leak of highly radioactive water from Reactor 2, despite numerous attempts to do so.

  • Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) down 1.14% $33.69. Data from the Semiconductor Industry Association showed a 1.1% drop in chip sales during February on a sequential basis, though sales popped 14% to $25.2 billion when compared with February 2010.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) down 0.43% to $50.84. Retail stocks moving lower today, for the most part, as concerns about the impact of ever increasing crude prices are weighing on investors minds. Higher oil prices are a double-edged sword for retailers, increasing input and shipping costs while crimping margins. The ETF led today by O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY), which is trading 1.3% lower at midday.
