Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 03/14: (CIGX) (TSO) (LWSN) High; (SHAW) (ULU) (AMSC) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Star Scientific, Inc. (Nasdaq: CIGX) high of $3.84. Moving 31=0% better from the close on Friday. which also saw a 25% gain, as Star reported that their claims for patents '649 and '401 were confirmed in a patent reexamination by the USPTO. The reexamination process has now been terminated.

  • Tesoro Corporation (NYSE: TSO) high of $26.72. Certain refineries are rocking today despite the drop in crude prices, as speculation surrounds whether or not they'll be able to supply Japan with their crude needs as the country has ceased production by six of their own refineries, leaving a 1.2 million barrel per day production gap.

  • Lawson Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: LWSN) high of $13.06. Affirmed an $11.25 per share takeover offer from Infor and Golden Gate Capital, though speculators have driven the price over $13 per share on prospects for a higher offer.

  • Cleveland BioLabs, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBLI) high of $8.46. Fallout from potential nuclear trouble in Japan as the country is having trouble keeping cores cool, though reactions have stopped in the plants. CBLI developed two Protectan compounds, CBLB502 and CBLB600, which act as radioprotection and a mitigatory of radiation damage. The compounds were developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense.
52-Week Low:
  • Shaw Group Inc. (Nasdaq: SHAW) low of $27.61. Slammed on fears that upcoming projects might be scrapped on Japan's nuclear worries. Shaw issued a statement on Sunday saying: "at this time, we do not believe there will be an impact on Shaw's nuclear projects currently under construction in the United States and China."

  • ULURU Inc. (AMEX; ULU) low of $0.058. Uranium stocks are all getting hit today, following an explosion at Fukushima plant in Japan. Investors are turning away from nuclear stocks today, sending many down over 20%.

  • American Superconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: AMSC) low of $21.70. The company announced that they were acquiring The Switch Engineering Oy for $265 million. Also, AMSC lowered their FY11 EPS outlook and is now expecting revenues to come in at the low-end of previous guidance.
