February 9, 2011 12:34 PM EST
Gainers

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.12% to $48.97. Led by priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN), whose stock is trading higher following Lazard Capital starting the company out with a Buy rating and $500 price target. PCLN shares are up 2.2% on the day.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 2.11% to $29.03. Lower today on Fed Chairman's comments that unemployment is still at high levels despite increasing signs of economic strength. The Chairman is making a testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives' Budget Committee today. Investors are wary of the comments, suggesting that the $600 billion QE2 will push forward. The CBOE VIX near-term is up 3.2% at last check.

  • CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSE: FXE) up 0.35% to $136.28. The U.S. dollar moved lower today as Fed Chairman said that unemployment is likely to stay "high for some time."

Receders

  • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) down 1.42% to $73.22. Lower today on Fed Chairman's comments, as weil as gasoline stockpiles increasing 4.66 million barrels to the highest level that they've been since March of 1990. Gasoline was only expected to increase 2.6 million barrels. Crude inventories also jumped 1.9 million barrels to 345.1, slightly below the analyst consensus calling for a 2 million barrel increase.

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) down 2.79% to $41.39. China stocks moving on the central bank interest rate hike, which some see the move curbing consumer demand for loans and new homes. Fed comments also may be having an affect, as higher unemployment in the U.S. will lead to lower exports from the Asia-Pacific, as well as South American, nations. Accordingly, iShares MSCI Brazil Index (NYSE: EWZ) and iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index (NYSE: EEM) are also down, among others.
