Receders

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 5.15% to $30.38. The CBOE VIX near-term volatility index is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, as the ISM Index came in at 60.8 for January, ahead of the 58.4 expected. Additionally, solid earnings out of several blue chips today (UPS (NYSE: UPS), along with the afrementioned companies), and a potential wind down to turmoil in Egypt is causing a positive increase in positive investor sentiment.

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 1.42% to $5.91. The impending blitzkrieg of snow, frost, and sad faces through the Midwest and Eastern U.S. has already been baked into the ETF and futures prices. Traders/investors now eying a warm up as we pass the midpoint of what some might call "an exceptional winter."

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) down 0.67% to $22.21. Investors are eschewing the U.S.
dollar as a safe haven, and favoring more risky equities, as manufacturing data, eased Middle East tensions are quelling fears of economic stagnation in the U.S.
