Gainers

  • Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) up 0.21% to $16.43. Being led by Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) on a snowy New York day. Shares appear to be trying to get back to the $166.50 price level after a gap down on Tuesday. Trading volume is relatively normal for the stock today, as well as for the financial ETF.

  • iShares Dow Jones US Real Estate (NYSE: IYR) up 0.70% to $57.73. Pending home sales increased 2% in November, adding positive sentiment continuing from yesterday when new home sales numbers came in ahead of the Street.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.49% to $47.02. Higher today, led by priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN), which is probably seeing some upside from peer Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) today, following another earnings victory from the unsinkable rental service. Traders may also be gearing up for Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) earnings after the market today, which is also expected to produce favorable results.

Receders

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 1.80% to $128.80. Gold continues its slide today, as a continued U.S. economic recovery points to the Fed tightening rates up following expiration of their QE2 program later this summer, with an upward adjustment in interest rates expected.

  • Energy Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLE) down 1.09% to $71.07. Oil futures seeing some pressure today as jobless numbers increased by 51K to 454K last week, from an 8.4% drop the prior week. Durable orders in December fell 2.5%, though there was a 0.5% gain excluding transportation. Both numbers missed the Street consensus. March 11 contracts are $1.41/barrel lower to $85.92/barrel. Many still see crude topping $100 per barrel in 2011.

  • SPDR S&P Homebuilders (NYSE: XHB) down 1.00% to $18.13. Ryland (NYSE: RYL) is leading the group lower today, following a fourth quarter 2010 earnings miss.
